Who can apply for a GEZ exemption?

Recipients of Bürgergeld (SGB II), social assistance (SGB XII), basic income support, BAföG (with their own household), benefits under AsylbLG, as well as people who are deafblind or blind (disability markers Bl/TBl/RF).

What documents do I need?

A current copy of your benefit award notice (Bürgergeld, BAföG, social assistance, etc.) or a copy of your disability pass.

When does the exemption take effect?

Backdating is possible for up to three years before the application date, provided the eligibility conditions were met throughout that period. By default, the exemption applies from the date of application.
